Fast Forward

We have not updated in a while. I hope I am able to get this caught up soon.

You are now 4...and will be turning 5 in five months.
You can count.
You can say your abcs.
You can sing.
You can dance.
You are hilarious.
You play on the x-box and Nintendo switch and I don't even understand how to make them work.

You have grown into a very opinionated and outspoken 4-year-old.
You are not happy that you can't start kindergarten this fall, but have to wait until 2019. (I get it, I was the same way).

You have a deep love for animals and nature.

You are perfect. You are handsome. You are gentle. You are everything anyone could hope to have in a sweet little person. I am so blessed to have you call me mama.

Growing and Learning

Lately, you have been blossoming with your vocabulary. It is so fun to watch you as you experiment with new sounds and words.

There had been a few days when you would say things and we would misinterpret what you were saying. It wasn't until last night that I realized what you were trying to say.

"Dame it" (dame as in Spanish for give me)

Whew. I had thought you were saying something else entirely. I'm glad you slowed down and reiterated what you were trying to express.

It is so fun teaching you new words. You pick things up so easily... and, though you may not repeat them right away, you do try to say them eventually.

Recently, you have also begun to assert your position. You no longer cry when big brother tries to do things you don't appreciate.

Two weeks ago, you were sitting in the living room watching tv when brother came in and tried to take the toy you were using. He made an attempt replacing it, but in the process must have pushed you. You grabbed his hair. When he did it again, you grabbed his hair again and hit him. (He was laughing, but I think he still got the idea that you are no longer going to accept his rude older brother behavior.)

Last week, you wanted to see the hamsters. When big brother wouldn't move from the stool, you yelled at him. He put his hand on your head, and you couldn't reach him. When you yelled again and it failed to yield a result, you simply moved in closer, grabbed him by the pants, and yanked as hard as you could. He flew in one direction, and you laughed.

That has put an end to his trying to boss you around and being authoritative, and mean.

You now play together so nicely. It's a lot of fun to see you both learning to play and interacting on a new level.

The Amazing Snow Monkey

We were told when we left the hospital with you that there would be things you would be slow at grasping as you grow and develop. They actually warned us you would be behind in some milestones, and that was okay because you were a "preemie".

So far, you have proven every one of those warnings wrong.

You were a little bit hesitant to walk. But you are a thinker. You have to think things out inside your head for a long time. Turn them over. Digest them fully. Then you will act on the thoughts. That is okay.

Today, you are a little over 15 months old. You walk. You chatter. You play jokes. You dance. You use 2 and 3-word phrases like they are natural for every child your age.

You bring mommy books to read to you before proclaiming "nigh-nigh" and going to your room for bed.

You are nothing short of amazing.

That's right, you are amazing, little Snow Monkey.

15 Months

I can't believe it's been 15 months since the little preemie that could busted his way out and joined the real world. 15 months. Wow.

It seems like just a short few weeks ago he was born, 6 weeks early. Scaring the bejeepers out of everyone, making us worry. Why do we do that, anyway? Why do we automatically think something just HAS to be wrong if things don't go as planned? (Clearly, nothing was wrong. He just got tired of life on the inside.)

Now, this amazing little miracle boy is 15 months old. He's a walking, talking, joking, dancing bundle of pure joy and sass. He is nothing short of absolutely amazing.

And we love him. With all of our hearts. Because he is the absolute best thing that could have come into our family at this time.

We watch daily as he and his older brother learn to interact with each other. They tease each other, take toys from each other, and sometimes blow up at one another. And it's all okay. It's all about letting them learn to interact in a positive and loving way... and only stepping in when they get a little out of hand.

At 15 months, the little Snow Monkey (as we lovingly call him) has 16 teeth, and we're pretty sure has more that are just waiting for the best opportunity to show themselves.

He talks... oh does he talk. Most of it is babble... but you can make out words a good part of the time, as well.  His list to date: mama, dada, tata, mommy, daddy, Bella, Alo, tablet, via, corky, John, Josie (Rosie), get it, play, love, you, go, do, nigh-nigh, no, book, hug, kiss.
Phrases he uses: get it, i love you, go play, soft kitty, do it.
Sign language terms: more, enough, milk
Spanish: zapato, ajo, hola

He walks everywhere he can... and sometimes crawls (he is much faster at crawling than walking, so sometimes he prefers it).

Watching this little guy use logic and reasoning skills is astounding. It is nothing short of amazing. Sometimes, to put it simply, he just blows me away.

He is at least on par with his brother... and it is frightening sometimes. We are really in for it later when they learn how important working as a team is going to be in life....

Full Speed Ahead

What once we held as truth has been proven false.

Our sweet little peanut, Snow Angel, is 5 and a half months old! Can you believe it??! (I can't either.)

We were told "He's a preemie, so he will develop more slowly than a normal child... so don't be disappointed if he doesn't meet milestones as quickly as his brother did."

We expected that to be truth. He, however, has set out to prove us wrong.

At 5 1/2 months, the sweet Snow Angel does so many things....

holds his head up steadily, and can rest on his elbows with his head up when on his belly.
rolls over with ease.
chatters incessantly.
says "mama", "Ajo", "hi" and "i love you".
sits up, though not quite steadily just yet.
scoots and rolls everywhere.
smiles non-stop.
has two bottom teeth and is getting two on top.
plays with everything he can get his hands on.
eats very well - 4 times a day.
enjoys going to the park and watching his big brother play.
enjoys sleeping on his belly.

So far he has tried:

rice cereal
rice cereal with apples and bananas
bananas
mangoes
peaches
pears
apples
oranges
vanilla wafer cookies
peas
carrots
yellow squash
zucchini
white potato
yukon gold potato
sweet potato
chicken

It is absolutely amazing to watch him meet milestones... he is amazing.

His big brother is infatuated with him. He loves to try to show him new things...and talk to him. He helps us take care of him when he can. He shares with him.

I am literally in Heaven. Having two boys is so amazing. So fulfilling. They are my joy.

The Belly - Weeks 29-32

September 14, 2013 - Belly Week 29

More things I miss from "life before the belly": walking sans waddle

It is entertaining to watch you move in response to external stimuli. It could be that I'm just easily entertained, but I get a real kick out of watching.

Your big brother likes to push gently or tap on my belly and watch you push back. He laughs when you kick his hand... which makes me laugh. It's so precious - you aren't even born and you're already interacting with your brother.

It's the beginning of a very close friendship.

September 21, 2013 - The Belly Week 30

I think you're going to be between 8 and 9 pounds when you're born. You lay differently than your brother did - so you're sometimes heavier feeling.

Size wise, I don't look larger than I did with your brother. It will be interesting to see how big you really are when you are born.

September 28, 2013 - The Belly Week 31

I am now most comfortable sleeping: on my side
I am now getting up to pee about 3 times per night.

You continue to be extremely active. I don't have to do kick counts because you move throughout the day. It almost feels like you're a kickboxer at times.

October 5, 2013 - The Belly Week 32

We are in sunny, hotter than Hates, Orlando, Florida. We do a lot of walking, which is helping control my blood sugars. If only I lived here, and were able to visit the parks weekly!!

You kicked and your brother really felt it for the first time. He blamed me... but he thought I was playing. Too cute!

Weeks 37-40 - Post-Belly Epilogue

November 9, 2013 - The Belly Week 37 (Post-Belly Epilogue Week 3)

Snapshot of Our Life
Music that we are listening to lately:  80's, Pop, What Does the Fox Say, the Gummi Bear Song.
Recent movie I've seen:  Killing Kennedy
Book I'm reading: The Kingdom Keepers #6
Top news story right now: Phillipines Typhoon

Things are still going very well.

You officially came home yesterday!! Yay!

It was a really crazy day. We were so very happy to bring you home, and your brother was super excited to be able to hold you for the first time!

It still seems so very surreal that you may not be born yet under normal circumstances. We will never know why you came early, but we are very thankful you are strong and healthy.

November 16, 2013 - The Belly Week 38 (Post-Belly Epilogue Week 4)

Wow, you're almost a month old already! I can't believe how quickly time is passing. You grow more and more beautiful with each passing day. You rarely smile - you are so serious! You have an absolutely breathtaking smile, when you do use it.

You are so beautiful, and we are so very lucky to finally have you home!

November 23, 2013 - The Belly Week 39 (Post-Belly Epilogue Week 5)

Holy cow! I can't believe you're a month old already!

You are growing so fast! It has been so amazing to watch your growth and development.

A month ago, I was still trying to get your nursery set up and thinking about who you might resemble most... until we were surprised with your early arrival! Today, we've already heard your first laugh, watched as you scoot, lift and turn your head, hold your bottle, reach for toys, play with mommy's hair, and smile.

It is so fun to watch you grow and develop. It's almost indescribable.

The Belly - Weeks 33-36 Mid/Late Third Trimester

October 12, 2013 - Belly Week 33

Our intimate time together is passing so quickly. I can't believe we're already in the last 6 weeks!!!

One month to go! this is what I'm doing to prepare for your arrival: making things! (Crib dust ruffle, window valance, etc.) Washing your clothes and bed linens, rearranging the nursery, and cleaning. I think they call this nesting....

Yep, I think I'm officially nesting!!

October 19, 2013 - Belly Week 34

Things still appear to be moving along rather smoothly. Nothing major to report.

October 23, 2013 - Belly Week 34 and 4 days

Today, we had a bit of a surprise.

I woke at 2:30 am with back pains. I just shifted positions, hoping that would alleviate the issue. At 3:15, I awoke again... still in pain. By 5am, I figured I would get up and take a shower, maybe the water would help. When that did not, I broke down into tears of frustration and fear.

I had a doctor's appointment at 8am, so we proceeded to continue getting ready to go to work. The doctor assured me that everything was fine, she saw no signs of labor. So she told me to try some different comfort measures as the baby (you) was just really low and that was causing stress on the muscles of my lower back. Everything else looked fine. The back pain had begun to subside, so I went to work.

We had lunch (chili) at around 12:45. At 1, I went upstairs to try to relax a bit and see if the back pain, which had returned with a vengeance, would go away. We called to the l&d unit, and they urged us to come over so they could check things out.

At 3, we checked in. We heard the doctor outside the door stating it was just 6 hours prior we'd seen the doctor... and they thought it was probably preterm labor. They were going to check it out and give me some medication if needed, then I'd be free to go home.

Apparently, SA had other plans.

At 3:15, the doctor came in and wanted to examine me. Officer Dad took the time to point out that these back spasms were happening every 3 minutes and lasting about a minute. Such an interesting pattern. The resident began to talk to us about what could be happening. The nurse, at some point, told OD he might be more comfortable if he only let me hold two of his fingers instead of his entire hand... especially if he didn't want his wedding ring permanently etched into his fingers.

The resident asked if I could try to lean back so he could take an ultrasound and see what was happening (as he wasn't able to get a good angle with me sitting up). I shook my head, and OD told him I was in the middle of one of the spasms... to give it a bit. He asked again, and I told him he didn't have any time to do that. When he asked why, I let him know my water just broke.

Resident: Are you sure it was your water, and not just your bladder?
Me: If that was my bladder, we have an even bigger problem than preterm labor.

So he looked, and I was whisked off to the delivery room. This was around 3:30. In delivery, they were prepared to examine me and get me hooked up and prepped for a c-section.

Doctor: You are an excellent candidate for VBAC. Have you ever thought of trying a vag. birth?
Me: No. I prefer a c-section if possible.
Doctor: Ok. Let me take a look. (looking at anesthesia team) Get prepared to administer the nerve block.
Anesth.: Ok. We are prepped and ready to go.

The doctor did an examination...but an alternative plan was made.

Doctor: We don't have time for a c-section.
Me: Why? What do you mean?
Doctor: He is right here. You're completely dilated, completely effaced plus 2. His head is crowning. There is no time for a nerve block.
Me: Ok. So?
Doctor: Well, you are an excellent candidate for VBAC.
Me: Yay, me!
Doctor: The bad news is we don't have time to get any medication in you. It won't take effect. We need to get you into the delivery room now.
Me: Joy. Well, get your catcher's mitt on, and let's git r done!
Silence.

Geeze. Haven't you guys ever dealt with someone who makes jokes when they are in pain?

There were the usual... "don't push" comments.
"It's okay, you're doing great."
Me: Just stinkin' help me, please. OR
I'm trying not to push, but my body has other plans.

All in all, at 3:43 pm, Sweet little Snow Angel was born. Healthy, but 5 weeks and 2 days early. Pitosin was administered after the little angel was born - to help with pain (which, ironically was no longer a huge issue to me - once SA's head was out, the pain/pressure simply vanished).

I had no medication. Birth plan went out the window. But it ended well... and my precious little boy was here. (In other news, I apparently deal with unbearable pain by becoming a comedienne.)

Birth Weight: 6lb 1oz
Length: 18 3/4 inches
Time of Birth: 3:43pm

Now it was time to sew me up. A while into the procedure...

Me:Ouch, ouch, ouch. That hurts.
Doctor: What does it feel like?
Me: Bees stinging. Definitely bees stinging. Not cool.
Doctor: I'm going to need more... (whatever they use to numb).

They liked my descriptions.

As we were on the way back to recovery, we saw the nurse who was with us in the triage room.

Nurse: Wow, that was quick.
Resident: Yea, that was what we call a drive-thru.
*Laughter

I'm glad we all appreciate a sense of humor.

October 24, 2013

It is really strange to be in the postpartum unit, in my room, alone. When Little Monkey was born, he was able to room in with me. Snow Angel is not able to do so, as he is in an isolette. Talk about frightening! When I first visited the ISCN yesterday, it shocked me. I almost started to cry. I know SA is fine, but all of the wires, tubes, and hooplah are intimidating.

On a plus - they have a video camera hooked up in his room. I am able to connect to his room via closed circuit television feed and watch him day and night. Therefore, I know when he's starting to wake up, and I can go to his room and see him. That is absolutely the best.idea.ever.implemented. Not that I would recommend this arrangement to anyone, but for those who have to endure it... well, let's just say it really makes the situation a bit more bearable.

October 26, 2013 - Belly Week 35 (Post-Belly Epilogue Week 1)

I was released from the hospital yesterday. It was bittersweet... because I didn't get to take Snow Angel home. No, we have to wait indefinitely until you meet the goals that have been laid out for you.

People say that my belly looks: right on target... a.k.a. great. I apparently look awesome.

Snow Angel was born 3 days ago. I still look down from time to time and sigh - I miss being pregnant. Perhaps, had we gone to full term together, my opinion would be different. Leaving the hospital to go home without him in my arms was so difficult... I can't wait until he gets to go home. Making several runs to the hospital every day is definitely starting to wear on us both, trying to balance time spent with SA and time spent with LM is tough at times. Especially with LM not feeling his greatest.

November 2, 2013 - Belly Week 36 (Post-Belly Epilogue Week 2)

SA is almost two weeks old.

Weight: 6lb 7.4oz
Length: 19 3/4 inches

He continues to grow quickly and eat very well. He's up to about 50% oral feedings now - keep up the good work little man!

I can't believe how well he is doing! We love him so much, and still wait anxiously for the day they tell us it's almost time for him to come home. :)

November 7, 2013 - Post-Belly Epilogue Week 2 and 6 days

I got a call from your nurse this morning.

Message:
"Hi ____, this is the nurse taking care of SA today. He is doing just fine. He is actually doing very well, so well that I'm wondering when you guys come this afternoon if you could bring his car seat because he has been taking all oral feedings since yesterday at 10 am. I am thinking this is looking very good for you all... so when you come bring the car seat with you.... you don't need to call me back, all is well... I'll talk to you soon. Bye-bye."

As I listened to this message, I literally broke down in tears. Not sad tears... very happy tears. The news in this message may seem mundane to you, but to someone who has been anxiously awaiting bringing their beautiful baby home, this is the best message you can receive. As a matter of fact, it equals the best news you can ever dream of hearing.

You see, when they ask for the car seat to be brought in, you are merely a single day from bringing your beautiful baby home. You are a single day away from their graduating from the care of ISCN because they no longer need the extra special care.

We brought SA home on November 8, 2013.
It was easily one of the happiest days of my life.

The Belly: Weeks 25-28

August 17, 2013 - Belly Week 25

I feel compelled to talk about my pregnancy: Only with other pregnant women or new mothers.

You like to move late at night lately. I have a feeling you're going to be a night owl. I love feeling you move so much. It's great that you're so active.

August 24, 2013 - Belly Week 26

So, on request from mommy - no more aerobics at 2am. :)

You love to move - it is so awesome to feel you kicking! Your big brother calls you by name and gives you kisses a lot...a LOT! He is really excited that he's going to have a baby brother to play with.

It's getting miserably hot out - I am glad we have a great, functioning air conditioner!!

I hope you'll be as beautiful inside and out as your brother. He's so happy - hopefully he will be a great example for you!

August 31, 2013 - Belly Week 27

Right now, my husband/partner is feeling a little: ecstatic

We're all excited! Only 13 weeks left, and we get to meet you!! I know, holy cow... where has this time gone?!

I guess I'd better get busy redoing the nursery. I've planned a colorful tribute to Disney - your big broter, Tony helped me decide on the design. He has great taste!

September 7, 2013 - Belly Week 28

Everything continues to go very well. You continue to be quite the mover, and you're growing nicely. Keep up the good work, little man!

I can't wait to hold you - hopefully you're every bit as beautiful and intelligent as your big brother - he is truly beautiful inside and out. You can learn a lot from him... he is so very loving and considerate.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are over halfway to the finish line! I can't believe how quickly this pregnancy is going - it seems like just yesterday we were anxiously awaiting results from the blood test. This pregnancy has definitely been completely different from the last. It seems I've hardly had time to truly enjoy it.

Exiting the Second Trimester - Closing Remarks

At 24 weeks, I definitely didn't feel as large as I did with LM. I'm not sure why...but it's nice. I've continued to work hard to keep weight gain under control, and try to get plenty of exercise and drink plenty of fluids. I'm also eating a varied, healthy diet to give the Stowaway the best possible start.

Other than being a bit run down early this trimester, it has been a breeze. I'm glad to feel the Stowaway moving more and more...and getting stronger. I know he's doing well and growing because he's extremely active and strong.

It's pretty funny, I like to read at night. I will often rest my Nook on my belly - this is more out of habit than anything else. As I go through the pages, the Stowaway will kick at the Nook. It makes me laugh. I wonder if he wants me to start reading to him. Maybe I should try that and see what he does.

So, here we go. Officially entering the third trimester. The home stretch, so to speak. Wish me luck in getting all of my projects done! Here is the list so far:

Make a crib quilt - Mickey Mouse theme.
Make a crib dust ruffle.
Make the nursery and playroom valances.
Make a Mickey Mouse lamp.
Paint the walls of the nursery (stripes, to match the Disney ship colors, really... so not having to paint the entire room...)
Paint the finials for the ends of the curtain rod in the nursery.
Make nursery wall art and find frames for it.
Paint the letters for the boys' names that will be hung on the wall in the nursery.
Paint the Mickey Mouse canvas art.
Make a nursery dirty clothes bag for the Stowaway.
Make a liner for the current laundry basket for LM.
Make decorator towels for the boys' bathroom.
Make fun throw pillows for the nursery... or playroom... not really sure where I'm going to put them yet.
Get and hang a stuffed animal net in the playroom to put away some of the crazy amounts of stuffed animals.
Clean the nursery closet and hang a new shelf and hanging clothing bar.
Arrange a "Meet the Stowaway" reception.
Put drawer pulls on LM's "big boy bed" drawers.
Fill the gap between the wall and the mattress on said "big boy bed" and put the railing up on the bed.
Clean/arrange the kiddo shelves in the cabinet in the kitchen.
Get the 3-6 month clothing out and go through it for the Stowaway - otherwise he will have to go nekkid in winter.

Yep, just to name a few things. Busy mommy!

I recently made a really adorable Jake costume (the Jake and the Neverland Pirate's main character) for LM. It is so stinkin' cute... and looks adorable on him!! I surprised myself, because I have never really done edging before... and it turned out looking pretty nice. LM told me the other day he wants to be Jake for Halloween.

The Belly - Weeks 21-24 - Late Second Trimester

We're winding up the second trimester. Things seem to be going well... and you're healthy and happy. I can feel the happiness every time you move. It's cute that you're moving in response to your brother's playful taps now. I think you two are going to be great buddies!

July 20, 2013 - Week 21

I'm most comfortable sleeping.... on my side.

I don't really ever sleep on my back or stomach normally... so I don't miss either of these positions. I do miss being able to move freely. It's tough to get situated when your belly sticks out. :)

I get up to pee about 1 time each night.

This is really nothing out of the ordinary. I get up at all sorts of crazy times, though.

Today is LM's 2nd birthday. There are only 4 months left until we get to hold the Stowaway.... and we can't believe it!

July 27, 2013 - Week 22

The Stowaway is still quite a mover! It seems he's getting more and more active as time goes on. That's alright, though. It makes kick counts pretty easy!

The Stowaway is large enough to feel on a consistent basis, and that makes it a lot easier on mommy. I love feeling the movements. I love feeling the progression of strength as well.

I find myself looking at blankets and outfits for the Stowaway to wear during our hospital stay. I was kind of unprepared for the hospital the last time. Now that I know what to expect, and my mom will be here to help me, I will be more capable of being able to move around and enjoy dressing the baby more.

August 03, 2013 - Week 23

The Stowaway is moving more and more. He kicked at his big brother's touch today - though LM didn't keep his hand on my belly enough to feel it. It was a strong kick, too!

It's cute that the Stowaway is already trying to interact. I think these two are going to be great buddies when the Stowaway is old enough to play. I know LM is really getting excited.

August 3, 2013 - Snapshot of My Life

Music we have been listening to lately:  80's, LMFAO, and Bridgit Mendler (LM's current favorites).
Recent movie I've seen: Monster's Inc. - a request by LM, who thoroughly enjoyed it! (I was actually quite surprised he sat still and watched the entire movie!)
Book I'm reading right now:  Kingdom Keepers 2 by Ridley Pearson
Top news stories right now: More issues in the Middle East - Americans were asked to evacuate Yemen due to terrorist threats. There never seems to be a peaceful moment in that area of the world.

August 6, 2013 - Week 24 and 3 days Appointment

We still see Dr. J about every 4 weeks. The report is almost always the same... everything looks great. The Stowaway is active and healthy, with a nice, strong heart rate.

We asked Dr. J to confirm the gender scan. Definitely a boy! You had no problems showing us this time! Of course, Dr. J is more gentle handed than the ultrasound tech was.

We talked about blood glucose levels - they still look pretty good. Dr. J waived the glucose challenge/tolerance test. He said that we're already watching levels, and the end result would be the same if I took the test and failed it anyway. So we'll just work together and keep an eye on blood sugars. Yay! I really can't express how much I appreciate him!

Now, it's time to find some nursery items for the nursery. We've chosen a Disney theme - LM's idea. So I need crib accessories, a valance, a lamp, and all sorts of fun new stuff. We are also going to paint in the room... so much to do, so little time!

15.5 weeks away from holding you, little Stowaway! Dr. J said he's going to look into the possibility of a November 23 delivery. My little Thanksgiving baby! We have so much more to be thankful for these days!

August 10, 2013 - Week 25

Today marks the end of this trimester. It's been a busy one, I can't believe we're 2/3 of the way to the end... and holding the Stowaway for the first time! 15 weeks.

I now think I have settled on a name for this precious little Stowaway, but I will be waiting to reveal the name. Yes, I know... party pooper! I just don't want to share it yet. I've waffled on it a few times... I don't think I will this time, though. Just not really in a sharing mood.

Midway

Singing..."Oh, we're halfway there..."

Actually, we're a little beyond halfway there, as in about 21.5 weeks along. But time gets away... :) So, we're about 2/3 of the way through the second trimester... wow! This seems to be going a LOT faster than #1.

For now, we have no name for the new addition, so I will affectionately call them The Little Stowaway. We have had the anatomy ultrasound... but I have my doubts and plan on asking our OB for a confirmation - not that I will be disappointed either way, it's just that the ultrasound image that proclaimed the sex of The Stowaway really looked like a super blurry image of the behind with the umbilical cord running between the legs. Couple that with a pregnancy that has been COMPLETELY different from that of our first, Little Monkey, and you can see why I have some doubts in my mind.

Anyway, I've started to be able to feel The Stowaway move pretty consistently. This is one of my favorite parts of pregnancy, it's like a huge secret only I get to take part in - unless The Stowaway happens to be a showoff on some days. :) It's such a special bonding time - just when I start thinking about The Stowaway, they start moving (I call it dancing, because it feels most like a dance going on in my belly.)

I am getting anxious to meet The Stowaway... and get the nursery re-decorated. We are going with a Disney theme... since Little Monkey LOVES Mickey Mouse and anything having to do with Disney. I chose a pretty easy design for the paint so I can focus on the decor a little more. I can't wait to get the nursery reorganized with the "big boy" bed on one side, and the crib on the other! I have been planning on making a quilt for Little Monkey, and hopefully will have some fabric left over so that I can make a crib quilt for the Stowaway. We shall see. I also plan on making home-made finials for the curtain rod (I have some that are white that I will paint with the color scheme of the room), and the valance will be hand made by mommy as well.

I have a lot of work to do... I'd better get busy!

The Belly - Weeks 17-20 - Mid Second Trimester

The middle of the second trimester is upon us. Man, this time I feel like a pro at pregnancy... I'm cruising right through this gig without any more worries! I'm even getting more frequent exercise and eating better meals, all while taking care of a very precocious toddler!

June 22, 2013 - Week 17

My appetite is currently the size of....Rhode Island.

Actually, my appetite has remained fairly normal. I work hard to maintain realistic portion sizes and try to remember to work in my snacks. (I'm not normally a snacky person, so this has been a bit of a challenge.) I'm trying to eat wholesome foods, exercise, and watch the amount of food that hits my plate so that my weight gain doesn't go all crazy again.

Actually, I only gained 30 pounds the last time (20 of that was baby weight). But I am working hard at trying to gain 25 or less this time. (So far, so good!)

June 29, 2013 - Week 18

We're leaving for Minocqua, Wisconsin. I can't wait to spend time with the Opichka side (my side) of the family! I really miss them a lot.

Minocqua is a beautiful and peaceful town. We try to get back there every few years to just kick back and relax. It's kind of a bummer that we can't stay all the way through July 4th this year. :( At any rate, my side of the family likes to go there to spend more quality family time - it's important for the younger members of the family. We'll get back there with our new little one, that's a sure thing... and one of the promises I've made!

July 06, 2013 - Week 19

We just got home from Minocqua two days ago. I wasn't too please to have to leave early, but it is what it is. I'll have to take a day off someday soon to make up for the missed vacation day.

I really wish we hadn't had to miss the July 4 festivities. I think LM would have enjoyed the fireworks. We did try to watch some fireworks at home - but the sounds of them in the distance kind of frightened LM... so we came inside and watched the fireworks in NYC instead. He enjoyed them.

July 8, 2013 - Week 20 and 2 days - The Anatomy Workup

Well, this is it, the day we've been anticipating for the last 19 weeks. That's right... the anatomy ultrasound! We get so much information from this appointment - we get to see all of your precious little limbs... your profile... and we find out whether you're a boy or a girl. Will you even show us?

The anatomy scan took nearly 1.5 hours. I was surprised, but not really surprised; as you were moving a lot. The tech pushed so hard, it wasn't shocking to see you trying to move - presumably to get away - away from her pokes. I would have been trying to get away, too!

At the end of the appointment, we had a full set of scans, and the knowledge you are healthy and developing right on schedule. We also had the tech's proclamation you're a boy. But the image she saved on the disk was so unclear, we were unsure. So, we will work on the perfect name... but we will also ask Dr. J to confirm this proclamation so we can have the nursery and everything ready for you, little Stowaway.

July 13, 2013 - Week 20

Well baby, we're halfway there!! (I've been humming "We're Halfway There" from Bon Jovi all day!)
I can't believe how quickly this pregnancy is going :(! It's kind of sad, actually. I really enjoy being pregnant... and knowing I'm bringing another sweet miracle into the world.

Everything is going so well. I've felt awesome, and the Stowaway is growing well.

Boy or Girl... to Know, or Not to Know

People say I'm carrying: low
Everyone thinks you are: a girl
Personally, I think you are: a girl
I hope for a girl. This pregnancy has just been so different from the last.

My thoughts about finding out if you're a girl or a boy before you're born:

I'm all for it. In fact, I can't wait! I am a planner, so I have to know if we're going to need to fix my old Winnie the Pooh crib and make it compatible with today's regulations. If we're expecting a girl, I also have to work to incorporate some Disney girl things into the nursery theme.

My husband... agrees with me. He doesn't like to wait.

The Belly - Weeks 13-16 - Early Second Trimester

The second trimester has started off a little better. Still having some aches and pains as my body gets used to the Stowaway... but the nausea is gone now. (Yay!)

May 25, 2013 - Week 13

My mood swings are: nonexistent - pregnancy has made me a Budda (in size and spirit!)
This may seem like a funny statement to many, but I really do stay pretty calm and cool when I'm pregnant. The only time I get a little antsy is when our toddler is being a bit of a rebel.

The stowaway is almost big enough to feel! I have felt movement a few times already, but can't wait until the movements are more consistent and predictable. It's always tough during the early stages of pregnancy, you want so desperately to know things are going well and the stowaway is okay, but you only get little glimpses here and there during appointments.

June 01, 2013 - Week 14

My weight gain has been slow and steady. I hope I'm able to keep it this way and refrain from gaining too much weight this time around. This time, it's been all about portion control, limiting carb intake, and moving. You've got to move it, move it... after all!

A healthy me means a healthy baby! I'm definitely giving it my undivided attention.

June 08, 2013 - Week 15

Now that the hormones have really kicked in, my hair is .... lustrous and full.

I'm showing more, so I'm having to wear some maternity shirts with my pants now. I am able to wear most of my pre-pregnancy shirts, though. So not many maternity shirts have come out.

I'm really starting to contemplate taking my stuff out and making sure it's ready for the time when my pre-pregnancy clothes will no longer fit.

June 15, 2013 - Week 16

This little Stowaway is a mover and a shaker! I sense another high-energy little one in our future! (Lord help us!) I can't believe we're already almost halfway to the due date! Where the heck has time gone this time???

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During our last appointment (May 20), I opted to wait until the anatomy ultrasound for our next appointment, unless something drastic happened. Of course, at the time, this sounded like a great idea. Now... I am a bundle of nerves. We have about 3 weeks left until that appointment. I can't wait!

Thankfully, I can feel the Stowaway move around a LOT more now, so my nerves are starting to subside.

A Few Clothes-ing Remarks

Maternity clothing is spendy. I am always amazed at the audacity of companies to charge such high prices for clothing you only get to wear for a few months. Some are lucky and get to use their clothing more than once, but I really feel for those who cannot... because these things aren't cheap, ladies and gentlemen!.

When I wore my first maternity outfit:
I started wearing the casual shirts at 10 weeks. The pants came at about 12.5 weeks... and the jeans, sometime in between. The styles of clothing today allowed me to wear my work pants and shirts a little bit longer... I believe I finally completely transitioned to professional clothing around 15 weeks.

My favorite maternity outfit is:
My yoga pant leggings.... and the cute shirts I have to wear with them. They are so comfy... almost like pregnancy Heaven. :)

I borrowed maternity clothing from:
No one. My friends and I are all different sizes, and none of them are pregnant right now.

Record number of days in a row I wore the same heinous pair of stretch pants:
I usually only wear them 2-3 days, depending on how hot it is out. And I only do this at home. When going to work, I wear something different every day.

Au Revoir, Jeans...au revoir, any semblance of a waist

Although I am still able to wear most of my pre-pregnancy wardrobe, there are times when I know this is going to have to change a lot sooner than it did with my first pregnancy. I can't believe how much earlier I started to show this time! Strange how the body can retain such information.

When I more or less popped:
At about the 8 week point, I started to show a little bit. This is a LOT earlier than I showed with my first pregnancy. While I was happy to be starting to show earlier, I was also kind of sad to have to pull out maternity clothing so early.

If and when my belly button popped:
I know that many women have this happen... but it has yet to happen to me. It never did so my first pregnancy, so I don't anticipate it happening on this one.

I'm starting to feel like:
A fertility goddess. This answer makes me giggle... mostly because the other option is Budda, and I'm far from that stage. But it is something pretty special to know you're pregnant when you're just starting to show.

More thoughts on getting big:
I am glad I'm showing earlier this time. Last time, I wondered if I'd ever get to use my maternity clothes. This time, it looks like I will get to use them a lot earlier, which is great. Those clothes are really spendy!

My exercise regime:
I try to get on the treadmill and/or walk outside at least 30 minutes 3-4 times each week. There are weeks when it's near impossible to make this happen, but I'm able to get it in for the most part.

May 20, 2013 - First OB Appointment

This is a day I will never forget because we heard your heartbeat for the first time. Hearing your heart beating, which sounded like a miracle taking place, and thinking of how much fun you will have with your big brother was just indescribable.

We watched you as you move around. You're a pretty active little angel... just like your big brother was. You'll need to be energetic to keep up with your brother.

We can't wait to find out if you're a boy or a girl. Only about five more weeks! We're hoping you're a little girl, but we'll be happy either way. Who wouldn't be overjoyed with a miracle???

The Belly - Weeks 9-12 - Late First Trimester

We're almost to the end of the first trimester. It's amazing how fast this time goes by. Even with the long waits for appointments... it flies.

April 27, 2013 - Week 9

We see Dr. J again in May.

Early pregnancy is always difficult. No weight gain, can't feel you moving yet... so I look forward to the OB appointments when we can see/hear you. That is the best way to know you're okay.

May 2, 2013 - The Belly Week 9 and 5 days

Weight gained: 5lb
Estimated Size of You: .14oz, 1.2" - about the size of a cherry

We just met with a nurse to review paperwork today and get everything transferred over to OB. I also had yet another blood test ordered - thank goodness this is the last one for a while!

May 4, 2013 - Week 10

I might have to start digging out my maternity clothes soon. At least the bottoms! My normal pants are getting a bit snug feeling, even though I don't really see any numbers going up on the scale.

The low weight gain is good. I'm trying hard to keep it lower this time... and my efforts are paying off! Clothes getting snug means you're growing - and your living quarters are expanding to accommodate your growth.

May 11, 2013 - Week 11

Snapshot of Our Life:

Music that we have been listening to lately: 80s - always 80s...along with some nursery rhymes and Disney music thrown in there - your brother loves Disney and nursery rhymes.

Recent movie I've seen:  Ice Age 3, Toy Story 1-3 (We've been watching lots of the Disney Jr channel lately).

Books I'm reading:  Kingdom Keepers I by Ridley Pearson

Top news story: Israel and Syria conflict - they just can't seem to get along over there. The right to marry debate - whether alternative lifestyles have the right to marriage. Gun control - is the general public responsible enough to own guns?

May 18, 2013 - Week 12

The end of the first trimester has arrived. Holy smokes!

I can't wait until my appointment to see Dr. J again... I get to see you again. It's a couple more days away... *sigh*.

Now, I can tell everyone else... not quite so fast! I'm still enjoying the secret. But almost!

The Belly - Weeks 5-8 - Mid First Trimester

We're in the middle of the first trimester. Honestly, other than the positive blood test proof, you'd really never know I was pregnant. Some differences to note... I am always cold, my back is sore an awful lot, and I get headaches and mild nausea. Can't wait for those to go away.

March 30, 2013 - Week 5

We just found out we're pregnant again - yay! So very excited to have another sweet bundle of joy on the way!! You'd think I would be a little less anxious... but I'm not. I'm every bit as anxious as I was the last time!

April 06, 2013 - Week 6

Although the blood work says positive, it's still really surreal until we see that tiny flicker of a heartbeat. That's still about 2 weeks away! Come on time, speed it up already! I want to see the sweet little bundle's heart flicker already!

Truly, one of the most amazing things in the world is when you're laying on that table, and you see the tiny flicker of a heart beat. The baby is so tiny, they are like the size of a bean... but you can still see a twinkle. It's nothing short of a miracle.

April 13, 2013 - Week 7

Strange craving alert... I want red meat. Like all the time. Normally, I can go weeks without it... lately I wonder if I'm carrying a tiny vampire.

I have some minor aches and pains here and there. I don't remember them from my last pregnancy. They are nothing major at all... and are usually pretty fleeting. I'm also cold. All.the.freaking.time. WTH!!??

April 19, 2013 - The Belly Week 7 and 6 days

Weight Gained: 2lb
Estimated Size of You: 0.04oz, .63" - about the size of a raspberry (wow, that's pretty tiny!)

At the 8-week point, the last invasive ultrasound is upon us. This one shows us the number of tiny miracles who are making a home inside the uterus. We also get to see the tiny twinkling heartbeat. So amazing - to see the miracle of life right there.

The big reveal - one tiny little sweetheart - WHEW! Seriously, you don't know how many times I dreamed of multiples (not just 2... that wouldn't have been a big deal... but more than three) during the wait. One tiny flickering heart made me a very happy mama-to-be for the remix.

You would think seeing a heartbeat flicker on the screen would be less impressive and fascinating the second time around... but not so much. I was so excited and overjoyed!

We were released, at this point, into the care of general OB. A healthy heartbeat, a strong heart rate, and ultrasound images in hand. Our journey is going very well.

April 20, 2013 - Week 8

I really love the early stages of pregnancy! I can still keep it to myself, because I'm able to wear most of my pre-pregnancy clothing. We have told a few people. We got to see you on the ultrasound yesterday...still such a magical moment.

Ultrasound technology never fails to amaze me. I love to watch baby move around on the monitor. It's so amazing.
